Well after all the talk about the Throttle body spacer I decided to do some homework on it. A few people have dynoed there
Jeep and have noticed gains of 6-10 HP and 2-3 miles per gallons. There is a company making them and a few people on the
web also. I have a friend [Thanks Paul] who is a machinist. I mailed him a Throttle body base gasket and told him to make
me the exact same thing out of aluminum and 1 inch think. I had it with in a couple of weeks and it was perfect. I did not
ask him to put the helical spiral in the bore like one of them has. I do not think it does much but is a good marketing
gimmick. Oh yeah one important thing. I have a 97 XJ with the High Output engine. From what I have heard this will
not work on the non HO engines. Ok so here we go. You will have to take the 4 bolts holding the TB [ Throttle
body ] in place out. Then there are 3 bolts that hold the throttle cable bracket in place. Take those out also. I then
got 2 base gaskets from Jeep. I think they cost me about 3 bucks for the 2. Put the TBS between the 2 gaskets like a sandwich
and place that between the TB and the intake. Tighten down to 100 INCH POUNDS. YES THAT IS RIGHT INCH POUNDS. I just
did it hand tight and it has been fine. Ok wile you are going to Jeep to get the TB gaskets go to a hard ware store like
Home Depot or Lowes and get longer bolts. They are metric. I had to get 6mm standard thread buy 50mm long. Then I also
got some 1-inch round 3/4 spacers for the throttle bracket. I was going to get some round stock but I ran into the 1-inch
spacers and that saved me the cutting and they were cheep enough. Also, get some longer bolts for the throttle bracket bolts.
Since you raised the TB up and inch, you should raise the TB cable bracket up also. That is here the 1-inch
spacers come in. Also, get some washers to fit your longer bolts. Then put the spacers between the TB bracket and the manifold.
That is it. You are all done. Should take about 15- 20 minutes to get the instillation done when you have all the parts.
It is easy. I have noticed some better throttle response and the Jeep has more pep to it. I haven't dynoed
it but according to some other's the HP is there. If you have any questions on this let me know It is a cheep way
to get some extra HP and better fuel economy.
